Sapporo

Sapporo (札幌市 Sapporo-shi) is the fourth-largest city in Japan by population, and the largest city on the northern Japanese island of Hokkaido. Located in Ishikari Subprefecture, it is the capital of Hokkaido Prefecture, and an ordinance-designated city of Japan. The city is the manufacturing centre of Hokkaido, manufacturing various goods such as food and related products, fabricated metal products, steel, machinery, beverages, pulp and paper. Sapporo is famous for its beer, skiing and annual snow festival featuring enormous ice sculptures. The Sapporo Beer Museum traces the city’s brewing history and has tastings and a beer garden!

As first time cruisers we were a bit apprehensive about the whole structure of the trip. We needn’t have been. The tours and tour guides provided a wide range of options. Lots to do and plenty of time to relax as well. I would have liked an additional cycling option at a moderate level. Think “stop and smell the roses” rather than spandex road warrior.
